Subject: Re: [office] Essay explaining why OpenDocument really is open - commentsappreciated.
David, This is a work of art! Bravo! One suggestion, keep and publicize this as widely as possible, but, the same information should be repackaged to be "How Open Standards Are Developed" or something along those lines. In other words, let's repurpose your excellent writing to make it a template for how to develop an Open Standard. The current version gets the word out but in a defensive manner. The proposed version would frame the debate on what it means to develop an Open Standard. Framing the debate is the really important issue. See, Don't think of an elephant! : know your values and frame the debate : the essential guide for progressives by George Lakoff. Another quick point, everyone in the committee should contact the technical/business reporters for local (or national news) outlets and let them know you are an expert on Open Standards. Suggest we all use David's article as talking points. So that we are all using the same terms, etc. Hearing something once may or may not leave an impression. Hearing it from several news sources must mean that it is true. ;-) Well, in our case it is true but having spent many years making the lesser appear to be the greater cause I also know it is also important to win the debate. Being right isn't enough. Good show David! Hope you are having a great day! Patrick David A.
