Just saying so is unfortunately not going to be a very convincing way to 
change at least my mind.  I disagree with your statement.

And choosing the maximum spec (24 bit and all the other features) 
certainly doesn't seem like we are limiting anything at all.

This is a lot of talk on this thread; and I have yet to see any reason why 
any person thinks 128x128, 24 bit with alpha is a problem to begin with.

Are there implementations that are unable to handle this ? Is it 
impossible to downscale it for desktops that can't handle thumbs that 
big?
