Subject: Review: Public Comment #329

Public Comment #329 (http://lists.oasis-open.org/archives/office-comment/200812/msg00001.html) is a review of OpenDocument 1.0 Errata 01 cd03. I have checked the comment against cd03 and the official version that was published after some production errors were corrected.

The only problems that remain are the one for 9.3 (moderate) and the one for 15.36 (minor).

The Errata response for 15.4.1 (N0942#30) is very strange, but the actual error appears to have been corrected (it is N0942#33).

DETAILED REVIEW

### SECTION 9.2.19 ERRATUM [PROBLEM RESOLVED IN PRODUCTION VERSION]

cd03: The instruction is
 - - -
Replace “horizontal” with “horizontal”; replace “left” with
“left”; replace “right” with “right”; replace “vertical” with
“vertical”.
 - - -
(The text uses distinct left- and right-double-quote symbols, and these may not come through properly on the list or in your e-mail client.)

The key point is that there is no difference in font, so the instructions appear to make no changes.

Production version: The double-quotes are the simple ASCII ones and the font differences are present.

### SECTION 9.3 ERRATUM FOR ODF 1.0 PAGE 295 LINE 39 [PROBLEM NOT RESOLVED]

cd03: The problem is that "scale" has the same font on both sides of the change.

Production version: The problem is not corrected. This needs to be corrected in any future errata for ODF 1.0. We should probably indicate a font difference in the accompanying erratum text as well.

### SECTION 9.3.3 [IMPROVED IN ODF 1.2 9.4.5.1, MINOR in ODF 1.0-ODF 1.1]

cd03: It is not clear which of the two changes to 9.3.3 that make two sentences from one is being referred to.
Production version: There are no differences.

Assuming that the comment applies to the change for ODF 1.0 section 9.3.3 page 300 line 11, it applies to the change from

 - - -
 - Objects that do not have an XML representation.
These objects only have a binary representation,
An example for this kind of objects OLE objects
   (see [OLE]).
 - - -
TO
 - - -
 - Objects that do not have an XML representation.
These objects only have a binary representation.
For example, an OLE object has no XML
   representation (see [OLE]).
 - - -

This language is changed for the better in ODF 1.2 cd01-rev06 section 9.4.5.1.

Although the first sentence ("Objects that do not have an XML representation.") might be omitted, the change in ODF 1.2 is preferable.

### SECTION 15.31.4 ERRATUM FOR ODF 1.0 PAGE 664 LINE 10 [EDITORIAL MATTER OF TASTE - NO-ACTION RECOMMENDED]

cd03 and the Production version are the same.

It seems preferable to leave in the three initial sentences, since they establish a semantic correspondence between the attributes named in 15.31.4 and those named elsewhere. I recommend no action.

### SECTION 15.36 INSERTION INSTRUCTIONS [MINOR in ODF 1.0-ODF 1.1, SLIGHT CHANCE OF CONFUSION]

cd03 and the Production version are identical.

The current instruction is "Insert into the list immediately before 15.36.1"

It might clarify somewhat to have said "Insert at the end of the list immediately before 15.36.1" However, order in the list is unimportant.

RECOMMENDATION: Restate in any future Errata for ODF 1.0 or ODF 1.1.

### SECTION 15.4.1 CROSS REFERENCE TO XSL SPECIFICATION [STILL NOT AN ERROR]

cd03 and the Production version both reject N0942:30, claiming that the text is correct.

The text of 15.4.1 (Both ODF 1.0 and IS 26300) refers to section 7.8.8 of the XSL Specification on fo:font-variant.

The Errata document has the following note:

N0942:30 “In 15.4.1, subsection 8.8.4 of XSL is referenced, but it should be 7.8.4.”
Rejected, the text is correct.

Murata-san objects, claiming that 7.8.4 is correct.

The only reference to section 8.8.4 of XSL is in section 15.4.19 Font Size.
The XSL Specification that is referenced is
[XSL] Extensible Stylesheet Language (XSL) Version 1.0. W3C Recommendation 15 October 2001) at <http://www.w3.org/TR/2001/REC-xsl-20011015/>.

In that document, there is no section 8.8.4 (section 8 is on Conformance) and section 7.8.4 is on Font Size. ODF 1.2 cd01-rev06 correctly refers to 7.8.4 in 18.182, 18.274, and 18.275

The Objection is correct, but the section number is incorrect. Errata 01 corrects this error in 15.4.19.
