Subject: [OASIS Issue Tracker] Commented: (OFFICE-1531) Editor Note: Section17.334 meta:object-count

    [ http://tools.oasis-open.org/issues/browse/OFFICE-1531?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=11571#action_11571 ]

Patrick Durusau commented on OFFICE-1531:
-----------------------------------------

Temping but I am not sure we really want to limit XML representations of objects only to those defined by OpenDocument.

On one hand, it does mean that "embedded object" has a more definite meaning, that is an object not defined by OpenDocument cannot be embedded. That of necessity means that non-OpenDocument objects, even those in XML, would have to either be stored as binary objects or as external objects.

If this it to be changed, both the general introduction, 9.5.4.1 and 9.5.4.2 would both have to be modified to distinguish between OpenDocument defined objects (not just objects with XML representations) and non-OpenDocument defined objects (whether "binary" in the traditional sense or simply non-OpenDocument defined XML).

Does anyone else have strong feelings about such changes?

> Ed. Note We have graphic "objects," drawing "objects," and 3D "objects," etc., so I am guessing that <draw:object> goes here, in parallel to draw:object-ole. Not immediately obvious or why <draw:object> gets a separate count.
