Well, if we don't know which mechanisms are in use, then yes, I suppose to deprecate would be the wrong decision.
However, do note that language like: "Although the use of the style:font-name attribute is recommended, this attribute may be used to specify the properties of a font."
simply invites comment.
If we "recommend" one over the other, then why not deprecate? Michael explains that apparently there is a view that this attribute simplifies document creation.
Suggestion: For all of the style:font-* attributes, why not simply remove the "is recommended" language and leave us with two equal mechanisms.
That is going to be the case anyway so why complicate our lives with recommendations?
BTW, this is high on my "hit" list for ODF-Next. Duplication of mechanisms is almost never a good idea. There are exceptions, at least as a matter of theory anyway. ;-)
I will give it a day or so but if no one has strong objections, I am going to sweep the style:font-* attributes of the notes and take out the "recommendation" language and simply otherwise leave things as they are.
