Just some references: According to the definition of linear filters "Image processing for computer graphics" by Jonas Gomes, Luiz Velho, the filter described here does not qualify as "linear".

Again assuming that the description is in fact what is intended, I propose that we strike the phrase "for a linear transformation" to remove this problem.
