Subject: [OASIS Issue Tracker] Commented: (OFFICE-1508) Named relative cellranges

    [ http://tools.oasis-open.org/issues/browse/OFFICE-1508?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=16119#action_16119 ]

Andreas Guelzow commented on OFFICE-1508:
------------------------------------------

No. THere is clearly a misunderstanding, but the specs does _not_ allow relative interpretation of named ranges: Yes I can specify the named range using an absolute base address and a relatiuve reference to that base address, but this makes the whole named range still absolute.

I want to (need to) be able to dfine a named range that is relative to the cell the name is being used in. So that =SUM(stufftotheleft) always calculates the sum of the cells that are to the left of the current cell by having stufftotheleft be effectively R[+0]C[1]:R[+0]C[-1].

> 17.638 currently contains the paragraph:
> If the expression contains a relative cell range address, a table:base-cell-address attribute must also appear on the <table:named-expression> element.
> The spreadsheet program Gnumeric allows for named ranges that are interpreted relative. This is useful for situations were one wants to write many similar formulas that for example refer to a certain number of cells to the top right.
