Subject: [OASIS Issue Tracker] Commented: (OFFICE-2218) DDE: check detailsof data conversion and cell style

    [ http://tools.oasis-open.org/issues/browse/OFFICE-2218?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=16907#action_16907 ]

Andreas Guelzow commented on OFFICE-2218:

Why do we have a essentially non-portable function inside OpenFormula? [The DDE function is non-portable because it depends on availability of external programs (server parameter) and their interpretation of the topic and item parameters. ] Isn't this a prime example for a function that should be stored with an implementation prefix?

If it has a prefix than an evaluator can at least know whether its interpretaion of the function matches the original interpretation. Having this function simply stored without prefix makes this impossible.

> ----------------------------------------------------
> Key: OFFICE-2218
> URL: http://tools.oasis-open.org/issues/browse/OFFICE-2218
> Project: OASIS Open Document Format for Office Applications (OpenDocument) TC
> Issue Type: Sub-task
> Components: OpenFormula
> Affects Versions: ODF 1.2
> Reporter: Eike Rathke
> Assignee: Eike Rathke
> Fix For: ODF 1.2
> Broken out from OFFICE-790
> DDE:
> - "mode 0 - Data converted to number(s) using the default cell style"
> - actually data is only converted to number (singular I think) if possible,
> otherwise text is returned.
> - Is it converted using VALUE, or some other way?
> - The "default cell style" is mentioned here for the first and only time - does
> this imply this function is only for spreadsheets? Shouldn't there be a bit
> more about the "default cell style"?
> Check these details.
