Subject: [OASIS Issue Tracker] Updated: (OFFICE-2346) 3.3.1 General - treatas notes?

Michael Brauer updated OFFICE-2346:
-----------------------------------

My opinion on this:

The first to paragraphs and the 2nd half of the third paragraph are normative. The remainder of the third paragraph is just informative and should be turned into notes. The fourth paragraph is informative, too, but should be deleted. Assumption whether or not many users understand how numbers are represented on computers in my opinion do not belong into a standard. Even not into a note.

Suggestion:

A number is a numeric value.

Numbers shall be able to represent fractional values (they shall not be limited to only integers). Evaluators may implement Number with an arbitrary fixed or with a variable bit length. A cell with a constant numeric value has the number type.

Note: Many implementations implement numbers as 64-bit IEEE floating point values and use the CPU's floating-point instructions where available (so intermediate values may be represented using more than 64 bits).
