Subject: [OASIS Issue Tracker] Created: (OFFICE-2595) Comments on chartelements and attributes

Comments on chart elements and attributes
-----------------------------------------

                 Key: OFFICE-2595
                 URL: http://tools.oasis-open.org/issues/browse/OFFICE-2595
Project: OASIS Open Document Format for Office Applications (OpenDocument) TC
          Issue Type: Bug
          Components: Chart
Affects Versions: ODF 1.2 Part 1 CD 4
            Reporter: Michael Brauer
            Assignee: Patrick Durusau
            Priority: Minor
Fix For: ODF 1.2 Part 1 CD 5

Some comments from Sun's OpenOffice.org developer Ingrid Halama:

11.7 <chart:floor> - bounding rectangle

The floor of a chart is a 3D object (like a floor of a chamber) and not a two-dimensional bounding rectangle. The according sentence was taken wrongly from the previous specification. There it was the plot-area that was described as bounding rectangle. In addition the statement about the size of the floor is unclear and does not specify anything. To avoid confusion it should be deleted.

Proposal:
delete:
"The size of the floor is determined in respect of the size of the plot area. It is the two-dimensional rectangle that serves as a bounding rectangle of the three-dimensional scene."

----------------------------------------------
19.15.1 chart:class - sentence structure - chart type for a chart type

There seems to be a copy paste relict in the second sentence of the first paragraph.

Proposal:
replace:
"The chart type is a namespaced token for a chart type."
with:
"The value is a namespaced token."

----------------------------------------------
19.15.1 chart:class - sentence structure - namespace

The last sentence of the first paragraph is missing some words or punctuation marks regarding the namespace.

Proposal:
replace:
"The values for the predefined chart types are: URN: urn:oasis:names:tc:opendocument:xmlns:chart:1.0."
with:
"The values for the predefined chart types are defined within the chart namespace (URN: urn:oasis:names:tc:opendocument:xmlns:chart:1.0.)"

----------------------------------------------
19.15.1 chart:class - sub-charts

The term 'sub-charts' is neither defined nor used in the rest of the specification. The sentence regarding 'sub-charts' does not add any valuable information and will only cause confusion. I suggest to remove it without replacement.

Proposal: delete sentence:
"This allows the creation of charts with multiple sub-charts."

----------------------------------------------
20.3 chart:auto-position: - presumed to be false

The subordinate clause ", otherwise it is presumed to be false" is wrong
and makes the attribute chart:auto-position completely useless.

Proposal: delete: ", otherwise it is presumed to be false"

----------------------------------------------
20.4 chart:auto-size - presumed to be false

The subordinate clause ", otherwise, it is presumed to be false" is wrong and makes the attribute chart:auto-size completely useless.

Proposal: delete: ", otherwise, it is presumed to be false"

----------------------------------------------
20.13 chart:error-category:

For the standard error the use of the term 'normal distribution' is wrong. The values of a series are not distributed 'normal' but 'equal'. The wrong term 'normal distribution' should be removed.

Proposal:
replace:
"standard-error: Standard error (standard deviation of the mean) of a data series assuming a normal distribution."

with:
"standard-error: Standard error (standard deviation of the mean) of the values of a series"

----------------------------------------------
20.32 chart:link-data-style-to-source

The value 'false' is described wrongly. It is not clear what is meant by 'a chart style of the chart document'.

Proposal:
replace:
"false: number format used for rendering the axis labels is the format defined by a chart style of the chart document."
with:
"false: number format used for rendering values is defined by the attribute style:data-style-name."

----------------------------------------------
20.40 chart:percentage

The description of attribute chart:percentage is broken. This attribute is not dependent on attribute chart:stacked, but can stand for itself. I suggest to remove the misleading reference to attribute chart:stacked.

Proposal: Replace the whole attribute description with:

The chart:percentage attribute specifies a percentage accumulation of values per category.

This attribute should be used within chart styles that are applied to a <chart:plot-area> element.

The defined values for the chart:percentage attribute are:

false: the attribute has no effect
true: values should be accumulated by category. The sum of the values per category is treated as 100percent and the y axis displays according percentages.

----------------------------------------------
20.43 chart:right-angled-axes

The values 'true' and 'false' are described wrongly. It is not the projection that is shared or rotated, but the 3D chart.

Proposal:

replace:
false: projection of a 3D chart is rotated.
true: projection of a 3D chart is sheared.

with:
false: the attribute has no effect.
true: a 3D chart is sheared instead of rotated. For Cartesian coordinate systems the x and y-axis do form a right angle in the 2D-projection.

----------------------------------------------
20.46 chart:sort-by-x-values

The term 'for example' is missing in the phrase in brackets.
Scatter charts are only one example and not an exclusive list.

Proposal:
Replace:
(scatter charts
with:
(for example scatter charts

----------------------------------------------
20.62 chart:treat-empty-cells

The phrase 'that point' is unclear.

Proposal:

Replace:
"that point"

with:
"a point with missing values"

There are two occurrences to replace.
