Subject: [OASIS Issue Tracker] Updated: (OFFICE-846) Public Comment: IntegerOverflow and number Types in ODF

Eike Rathke updated OFFICE-846:
-------------------------------

Assignee: Eike Rathke (was: Dennis Hamilton)

I don't see this as any "general question" of OpenFormula. We have section 2.6 Numerical Models that says we do not specify a numerical implementation model, and as such can't say anything about internal representation or exact integers or precision. We state that implementations tend to use IEEE 754, which implies limits, but may also use IEEE 854. We also state that "This means that applications will often not produce "exact" results, but only approximate results".

The original comment actually said "ODF seems to omit any clear specification in this regard, and also seems to imply that only one format should be used." and cited different material not present anymore.

> Project: OASIS Open Document Format for Office Applications (OpenDocument) TC
> Issue Type: Bug
> Components: OpenFormula
> Affects Versions: ODF 1.2 Part 2 CD 1
> Environment: This is a general problem where exact integer calculations are involved and are material to functions that require or deliver Integer exact values. This issue might apply to section 3.3 but certainly applies to section 3.10.5 and operations and functions where Integers are expected and Integers are promised.

> The general question is when are exact Integer parameters required and what what happens when an exact Integer result is promised and cannot be produced.
