Subject: RE: [office] [OASIS Issue Tracker] Commented: (OFFICE-2583) Public Comment: draw:auto-grow-height and draw:auto-grow-width attributes

Would you please review the comment I added to OFFICE-2583,
< http://tools.oasis-open.org/issues/browse/OFFICE-2583>.

I think that the public comment reflects a misunderstanding that does need to be cleared up. Also, the default values need to be specified when these are absent.

I believe this should be cleared up.

Michael, am I on the right track?

 - Dennis

Subject: [office] [OASIS Issue Tracker] Commented: (OFFICE-2583) Public Comment: draw:auto-grow-height and draw:auto-grow-width attributes

Dennis Hamilton commented on OFFICE-2583:
-----------------------------------------

I agree with Michael's note, but there is more explanation required.

IMPORTANT NOTE: SInce these attributes are optional, we need to know what the default values are.

In the ODF document, there is a specified text and width for the text shape. That is the minimum as well as the actual case if the text fits.

If the text doesn't fit and one or both of draw:auto-grow-height and draw:auto-grow-width are true, the consumer should grow the shape in the permitted dimension(s) to accomodate more text. (It is possible that it still can't fit it all because of other constraints.)

The specific manner in which the text shape is enlarged to accomodate more text is implementation-dependent.

If either or both attributes are false, the consumer should not grow the shape in that dimension in order to accomodate more of the text in its presentation of the shape.

Aside (not needed in the spec): the provisions only apply to consumers. They are only recommendations (should and should not). The specification is appropriately silent on how a producer determines the settings that it places in the document for a given text shape and its text, whether or not arrived at by manipulation of a consumed document.
