You can also say "draw a cubic Bézier curve" and the normal way that is done is relatively well-known.

I don't believe any equation is specified.

The greater mystery is where the list of path-step points are found, how the start point is known, how the control points are obtained, and how the destination (end-point of this curveto) is determined.

One can presume that the svg:d attribute can have something to do with it.   Since this is in a namespace under the authority of the ODF specification, it would be helpful if there was more about how this puppy and its siblings actual provide the information for the desired shape to be expressed and produced.

I suppose this should be a companion issue?
