Subject: [OASIS Issue Tracker] Commented: (OFFICE-2858) 18 Datatypes 18.1Introduction - First paragraph needs work

    [ http://tools.oasis-open.org/issues/browse/OFFICE-2858?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=19517#action_19517 ]

Dennis Hamilton commented on OFFICE-2858:
-----------------------------------------

I would say, in the Note that "This specification and the schema make reference to other specifications for some datatype definitions. Some datatypes introduced here may be specializations of other datatypes defined here or in other specifications."

I think some constraints are still provided in the schema with or without supporting prose.

And of course, it is "OpenDocument documents."

> Key: OFFICE-2858
> URL: http://tools.oasis-open.org/issues/browse/OFFICE-2858
> Project: OASIS Open Document Format for Office Applications (OpenDocument) TC
> Issue Type: Bug
> Affects Versions: ODF 1.2 Part 1 CD 5

> Now reads: "The values of attributes and elements are often described as having datatypes. These datatypes either are datatypes defined within [xmlschema-2], or are defined by this specification. Dataypes for which no [xmlschema-2] datatype exists are expressed in the schema by [xmlschema-2] datatypes with additional constraints. These constraints are either specified in the schema, or in this specification."
> 1) The opening sentence is unnecessary. Doesn't really matter what is usually said about attribute values and elements.
> 2) Second sentence is incorrect. All datatypes for ODF 1.2 are defined by this specification. In some cases that definition makes reference to other standards but the datatypes are defined here.
> 3) Third sentence is unnecessary.
> 4) Is the fourth sentence still true? I think all the constraints now appear in the specification?
> Suggest:
> The values of attributes and elements have datatypes. This specification defines datatypes for values and attributes of ODF 1.2 documents.
> Note: This specification makes reference to other specifications for some datatype definitions.
