Subject: [OASIS Issue Tracker] Commented: (OFFICE-3319) ODF 1.2 Part 1Section 9.9 Offers No Control over the Showing of Tracked Changes

    [ http://tools.oasis-open.org/issues/browse/OFFICE-3319?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=22531#action_22531 ]

Dennis Hamilton commented on OFFICE-3319:

@Eike:

That's interesting. I had not tried that.

My thinking about this is more around non-spreadsheet change tracking and it may be that the observation is inappropriate with regard to the separate rules for tracking spreadsheet row/column changes.

I had assumed that we view turning the tracking on and off and the showing on and off were comparable for both text and tables, whatever the differences in presentation happen to be. I do notice that one cannot, in my version of OO.o Calc, turn spreadsheet tracking off and then on again later with the previous changes still being tracked. However one can do that with OO.o Writer. It is not clear to me whether the specification reflects this, though I wonder why there is a boolean for turning tracking on and off if turning it off deletes the tracking.

> The attribute table:track-changes (with default value "false" starting with ODF 1.0) is used to indicate whether changes were being tracked when the document was produced and whether that is the initial setting for a consumer that supports change tracking.
> Although it is clear that the acceptance and rejection of changes and the means by which change tracking is initiated and suspended is a matter for an OpenDocument processor to deal with, it seems strange that the recommendation to show tracked changes is also not an interoperably-defined attribute of the <table:tracked-changes> element.
> [Consideration for <text:tracked-changes> will be addressed in a separate issue.]
