Subject: [OASIS Issue Tracker] Commented: (OFFICE-3595) Public Comment:PRD02 - "the alpha-numeric algorithm"

    [ http://tools.oasis-open.org/issues/browse/OFFICE-3595?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=23919#action_23919 ]

Michael Brauer commented on OFFICE-3595:
----------------------------------------

It seems we are discussing multiple, different issues here:
1. The issue that we use the term "alpha-numeric algorithm" without defining the term.
2. The issue that we use the value "float" rather than "double" in the example.
3. The issue that "double" and "integer" are literal attribute values rather than double or integer numbers.

Let's start with #2, since that is trivial. Of course, whenever we talk about the attribute value "float" in the example, this must read ""double. Further the values "integer" and "double" should appear in Courier.

Regarding #3: The descriptions of the attributes values "integer" and "double" must read:
- double: *string values are sorted as defined below*
- integer: *string values are sorted as defined below*

Regarding #1: There is not a single "alpha-numeric" sort algorithm, but a set of attributes that determine how values are sorted "alpha-numerically". For instance, the table:case-sensitive attribute specifies if the sort is case sensitive, and the table:country and table:language attributes specify the locale that is used to determine when two characters are considered to be equal if the sort is case-insensitive. So, what we mean by the "alpha-numeric algorithm" is the algorithm that is determined by these attributes. And this again is exactly the algorithm which would be used if the table:embedded-number-behavior attribute has the value "alpha-numeric". But it indeed may be clearer if we are not stating this is step 1, but directly before the description of the algorithm itself.
