Subject: [OASIS Issue Tracker] Commented: (OFFICE-2164) Add EASTERSUNDAYfunction
[ http://tools.oasis-open.org/issues/browse/OFFICE-2164?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=24554#action_24554 ] Robert Weir commented on OFFICE-2164: -------------------------------------- Andreas, are there any better alternatives? It seems we either have a proliferation of function names, one for each holiday, or we have a parametrized HOLIDAY() function. For parameters we either have strings (like we do for CONVERT) or integers (like we do with date count basis values). The former is self-documenting, but harder to localize. The later doesn't require translation (or is done entirely in user documentation) but is harder to read, and is more error prone, since a typo tends to silently return a different date for the wrong holiday rather than an error. There is also the extensibility issue, for vendor/user extensions. With strings you need a namespace mechanism. For integers you do something like say, "All values above 99 are reserved for implementation-defined extensions". But then you still have vendor-to-vendor collision possibilities. So you can see why I like the string parameter approach. I'd like to understand the translation issue more. What do you do today for CELL()? If you allow translated Clearly the initial OpenFormula uses a variety of approaches, due to its mapping of legacy functions. But we should probably try to encourage a single design approach going forward, when solving similar kinds of problems. HOLIDAY() is just one example of a class of functions. > Add EASTERSUNDAY function > ------------------------- > > Key: OFFICE-2164 > URL: http://tools.oasis-open.org/issues/browse/OFFICE-2164 > Project: OASIS Open Document Format for Office Applications (OpenDocument) TC > Issue Type: New Feature > Components: OpenFormula > Reporter: Eike Rathke > Assignee: Robert Weir > Priority: Minor > Fix For: ODF 1.3 CSD 01 > > > OpenOffice.org Calc knows the EASTERSUNDAY function, this is a proposal to include that with OpenFormula. -- This message is automatically generated by JIRA. - If you think it was sent incorrectly contact one of the administrators: http://tools.oasis-open.org/issues/secure/Administrators.jspa - For more information on JIRA, see: http://www.atlassian.com/software/jira
