Subject: [OASIS Issue Tracker] (OFFICE-3872) PAS Comment GB1: Request retention of ODF 1.1 as published standard

Chris Rae created OFFICE-3872:
---------------------------------

Summary: PAS Comment GB1: Request retention of ODF 1.1 as published standard
                 Key: OFFICE-3872
                 URL: https://issues.oasis-open.org/browse/OFFICE-3872
Project: OASIS Open Document Format for Office Applications (OpenDocument) TC
          Issue Type: Bug
    Affects Versions: ODF 1.2
            Reporter: Chris Rae

Comment logged by national body during the ODF 1.2 PAS process, to be address at Ballot Resolution Meeting.

Nature of defect :General

Original text of NB comment: The UK supports the publication of a new edition of ISO/IEC 26300 based upon the PAS submission by OASIS contained in ISO/IEC JTC 1 N 12034. The UK also welcomes the statements made by OASIS in the Explanatory Report accompanying the PAS submission (ISO/IEC JTC 1 N 12033) that indicate their intention to continue the cooperative stance over the existing shared maintenance plan negotiated between OASIS and ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 34 and approved by JTC 1 in 2008. The UK wishes the existing maintenance arrangements to remain in place and intends that its nominated experts continue to play an active role in the maintenance of ISO/IEC 26300 through participation in ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 34/WG 6.

The UK notes that implementations of both the current and new editions of ISO/IEC 26300 will continue to be developed and co-exist for some significant time, possibly for some years. While it may be appropriate to stabilise the current edition, the UK opposes its withdrawal, on the grounds that some further editorial maintenance of the current edition may be needed in support of existing and even new implementations.
