Subject: Office-1431 - proposal - Not for discussion today, will be scheduled for a future meeting
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Greetings! For the action item on Office-1431, I was to develop language urging the use of SVG over the current draw elements in ODF 1.2. As part of that effort, I draw your attention to 10.4.6.3 <draw:object-ole>, which reads in part: ***** The <draw:object-ole> element represents objects that do not have an OpenDocument representation. ***** SVG as defined by the W3C differs enough from our use of SVG that we should recommend to authors that they author and embed SVG images in ODF documents using the <draw:object-ole> element, at least for 1.3. I hope that in a 2.0 release, we can deprecate draw and use standard SVG . The language would appear in 10.1 General, as a second paragraph reading : ***** The use of SVG in ODF 1.2 differed in several respects from standard SVG and the ODF standard is moving towards use of SVG as defined by the W3C. To that end, implementers are urged to use the <draw:object-ole> element to support SVG as defined by the W3C in preference to the draw elements as defined by ODF 1.2. ***** We may want to profile SVG by reference, so that the entire SVG standard need no be implemented by ODF implementers but that can be done by reference so we don't have to copy-n-paste all the language into ODF. Hope everyone is at the start of a great week!
