Subject: [OASIS Issue Tracker] (OFFICE-4078) The technical term "baseline" is not defined.

    [ https://issues.oasis-open.org/browse/OFFICE-4078?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=77453#comment-77453 ]

Francis Cave commented on OFFICE-4078:
--------------------------------------

The term "baseline" is used in the PANOSE typeface classification system. Whatever definition of baseline is adopted for ODF should probably be consistent with PANOSE. Although it is an old system, I believe that it is still used by font manufacturers.

> There are several places were the term "baseline" is used, but it is nowhere defined. Especially for non-latin scripts a definition is needed. But even for latin scripts such definition is not simple. The spec should clearly say which line has to be used.
> For to imagine the complexity have a look at [https://www.w3.org/TR/css-inline-3/#css-metrics]
> No proposal yet.
