Subject: CERN interested in ODF TC membership & ODF Plugfest

Dear TC members,

Last week the ODF TC chairs were contacted by Maria Alandes, who works in the IT Department at CERN, the European Laboratory for Particle Physics in Geneva. She is involved in the MALT Project (https://malt.web.cern.ch) where they are trying to explore alternatives to proprietary solutions and reduce vendor lock-in. She in particular is leading the task for Productivity Tools and working in the area of office applications.

In a video conference this week she was explained that CERN would like to:
  1. Explore the possibility of getting involved in the ODF TC, understanding the responsibilities, effort and timing.
  2. Explore further ODF interoperability issues by doing an internal analysis and liaising with ODF TC to follow up on the findings. Depending on the results, CERN could be interested in the organisation of the next ODF Plugfest and contribute to bringing together the different ODF stakeholders and explore areas of collaboration and knowledge sharing
Patrick and I have invited her to join next Monday's TC call, although it is yet undecided if she will be already participating or needs further time for evaluation.
In any case, I would like to inform the TC about this and at the same time ask you for your feedback if you have ideas on enhancing interoperability in general and/or for an ODF Plugfest next year?

Jos was quite dedicated on automated cross application testing and we might want to stand on his shoulders:
Best regards,
Svante Schubert
