The proposal in my last comment describes the current implementation in Gnumeric.

EASTERSUNDAY(YEAR(TODAY()) is not the same as EASTERSUNDAY(). The former gives the date of the Easter Sunday in the current year, while the latter gives the date of the next Easter Sunday.

The Gregorian Calendar was defined during part of 1582. The adoption date of the calendar varied by locale. So it makes sense to have allow calculations for years from 1582 onwards.Â
