Well, that is interesting.  When I resolved the master task, the available workflow is to "Apply Issue Resolution."  

Also, it is very nice how JIRA shows the subtasks that are resolved and adds colors in the band of task progress.

I will Apply Issue Resolution and find out what that entails.
