Subject: Re: [members] OASIS to launch Open Matters Forum, 19 Aug

FWIW, we changed the colors of the OASIS logo a couple of years ago (from purple and gold to blue), but we're working on a website redesign now, and we told the Furthermore designers that everything is on the table including the logo.

Hi Nithya,

The basic intent here is twofold:

1) Change the perception of OASIS as a âlegacy Standards Development Organizationâ - I know some of our staff rail at this, because, in reality, it isnât true - we are very progressive, but, my experience with our open source colleagues and the greater ecosystem is that there is still the perception that OASIS isnât really that versed in open source.Â

In the same way I have to explain (as one of its board members) that Eclipse is not just an IDE play today, much of my limited contribution to Open OASIS has been to help re-message its long-standing brand to folks that care about open source foundations and governance.ÂÂ

Telling stories about what you're working on and why, showing where the organization is leading and letting those convey your message is more effective in my experience that launching a major rebranding campaign.Â

Cheers,

Deb

P.S. Have you considered changing your logo? ;)

2) Showcase the thought-leadership and strategic direction we are moving toward combining the best of open standards and open source into a coherent open development ecosystem, as well as touch on important related topics such as diversity & inclusion. Â

The intent is that this shouldnât just be an âOASIS commercial,â but should also bring in technology leaders (such as yourself and others on the AC, as well as OASIS board, staff, and members) to talk about the challenges and the successes weâve had in developing the open development ecosystem.

I hope this helps and Iâm looking forward to reaching out to you folks as we progress on the editorial calendar for thisâ

Thanks.

What is the intent behind the virtual series? I think it is a good idea.

Advisory Council members - I wanted to share this notice with you, too. Guy is launching a virtual conversation series later this month, and we'd be thrilled to have you attend (and participate as a special guest) in this or upcoming sessions. In fact, we've already thought of something to chat about with each of you - be on the lookout in the coming weeks and months for a request to participate ð

Dear Members,

Later this month, we plan to launch a new virtual series called âOpen Matters.â Led by our Executive Director, Guy Martin, these forums are informal gatherings that will engage the open development ecosystem, addressing key topics within open source and open standards communities, while helping facilitate cross-industry collaboration.Â

Each episode will include interviews with technology luminaries as they share their insights and debate issues on topics that matter to both the open standards and open source world. A live discussion with the audience will complete each event.

Our first episode on 19 August will be a one-on-one conversation between Guy and our OASIS Board of Directors Chairman, Gershon Janssen. This will be your opportunity to get to know Guy better, ask him questions, and learn about future programs and activities OASIS has in store for 2020 and beyond.Â

Mark your calendar!

Open Matters, episode one
Wednesday, 19 August
11:00 AM EST (15:00 UTC)

If you would like to attend the live stream and interact with Guy and Gershon, sign up to attend here.

You'll receive a Zoom webinar passcode shortly after.

Questions are welcome in advance. Send questions to events@oasis-open.org.

Looking forward to seeing you there!

Regards, Jane

BTW: Unable to attend? Free access to the recorded video will be available after the forum on the OASIS YouTube site.
