Subject: OpenC2 Happenings for week of 7 May

General Announcements:

OpenC2 received a lot of attention at the Integrated Cyber Spring 2018 event May 1-2, including:
  • Efrain Ortiz showed off his web-based OpenC2 command generator to the general session
  • Joe Brule presented on the state and plans for OpenC2 in a well-attended breakout
  • Dan Riedel's presentation on Indicator Remediation Language included discussion of application of OpenC2 to energy system use cases
  • An IACD team presentation examining reversibility of automated workflows used OpenC2 as the framework for their analysis
  •  Sounil Yu represented the financial sector for ‘The Future of Orchestration’ panel.  OpenC2 was referenced by multiple times panelists and there was general agreement that standards such as OpenC2 are required to enable integrated cyber defenses.  Sounil Yu emphasized the need for standards such as OpenC2 to enable the commoditization of cyber defenses and that OpenC2 is a means for the vendors to communicate what their products provide in an unambiguous way.

Work on the Stateless Packet Filter actuator profile continues; the editors have set a goal to be ready to launch an eballot for approval as a CSD by the 16 May TC meeting.

Planned Face-to-Face (F2F) Meetings:
  • July 25-26, 2018 in San Ramon, CA; hosted by New Context.
  • October 1-2, 2018 will be held in conjunction with Borderless Cyber at Georgetown University.
    • We are still looking for volunteers to lead the tiger team effort for October F2F
  • January 10-11, 2019 in Phoenix, AZ; hosted by NAESB.

Coming This Week:

Language Subcommittee (LSC) meeting will occur on Tuesday May 8th at 1:00pm Eastern. The expected focus is continued review of use cases and threads to flesh out targets and target specifiers.  The standing L-SC agenda is captured in Lucid.

Actuator Profile (AP-SC) meeting will occur on Wednesday May 9th at 1:00pm Eastern. The expected focus is continued review and discussion of the in-development Stateless Packet Filtering actuator profile.

Lucid Meeting Invitations:  SC and TC members should receive email notifications for their respective meetings directly from Lucid Meetings. If you are not receiving invitations via Lucid Emails, please notify Joe Brule or David Lemire ASAP and we will ensure that you are added. If you wish to routinely receive invitations to specific SC meetings, please join the SCs of interest in OASIS Kavi to ensure you receive future Lucid Meeting invites.

Questions about OpenC2 and how to get involved:  contact Joe Brule (jmbrule@radium.ncsc.mil), Sounil Yu (Sounil.yu@bankofamerica.com), or David Lemire (dave.lemire@g2-inc.com).

If you haven't joined the discussion on the OpenC2 Slack community and would like to, let us know and we will get you started.

Very Respectfully,

Sent by David Lemire on behalf of

Joe Brule & Sounil Yu, OpenC2 TC Co-Chairs
