Subject: [opencsa-ms] OASIS Open CSA Member Section Steering Committee
'Special Election' Schedule
Importance: High

OASIS Open CSA Member Section Members,
Two seats on the OASIS Open CSA Member Section Steering Committee (SC) are
now open for nomination and election. The current SC consists of five
members [1] and does not comply with the Rules of Procedure, 'The SC shall
consist of seven (7) members...' [2], therefore, a Special Election will be

The Member Section will nominate and elect two Steering Committee Members,
one for each of a two-year term and a one-year term. The one candidate
receiving the highest ranked votes will serve the two-year term.

The nomination and election procedures for the Steering Committee are
defined by the OASIS Member Section Policy [3] and the Open CSA Member
Section Rules of Procedure [2]. Any Open CSA participant [4] may nominate or
be nominated as a candidate for the Steering Committee. (Any OASIS member
may join the Open CSA MS at no additional cost [5].)

Each Open CSA Supporting Entity has one Qualified Elector who casts the
single vote on behalf of his/her organization. Unless otherwise designated,
the organization's Primary Representative serves as the Qualified Elector.

***Per the schedule below, the voting period will be one week. Please note,
if you are the Primary Representative for your organization and unable to
vote during the designated time period, please defer the voting member role
to another employee member by sending an email to
member-services@oasis-open.org, any such change should be in place before
the ballot is cast.**

Nominations will be open 27-May-2008 through 17-June-2008.

The election will be held 17-June-2008 through 24-June-2008.

Any Open CSA participant may nominate a candidate via email to:

Prior to being confirmed as a candidate, each nominee must:

1. Accept the nomination;

2. Confirm his/her ability to meet the time commitments of the position
(participation in a two-hour teleconference each month, additional support
activities as needed);

3. Provide background information and a position statement describing
his/her qualifications and motivations for serving on the Steering
Committee; and

4. Be a participant in the Open CSA Member Section.

The two new Steering Committee members will be selected by the Open CSA
Qualified Electors, using the Single Transferable Voting (STV) process -
Scottish Method [6]. STV considers each voter's ranked preference for
candidates, in order to more accurately reflect the wishes of the
electorate. Open CSA Qualified Electors will be sent detailed voting
instructions separately.

Results will be announced immediately after they are tabulated and

We encourage all Open CSA participants to consider serving on the Steering
Committee. Please contact member-services@oasis-open.org with any questions
you might have regarding this process.
