Further to today's teleconfernece call, here is the link to the 2006 Global Privacy Standard, which was an effort of the international privacy and data protection commissioners, led by the IPC, to harmonize the various privacy codes and practices in use around the world. 

Of particular interest to committee members is the (then-novel) inclusion of "data minimization" as a distinct new fair information practice, as well as a limitation on specified purposes.
