Subject: PRIPARE contribution to ISO Study period on privacy engineering framework

Dear all,

PRIPARE has just submitted a contribution for the ISO WG5 study period on privacy engineering framework.
Contributions are expected until August 15th (tomorrow). They will be discussed in the next ISO  WG5 meeting in Jaipur (Oct 26-30).

Cheers

Dear all,

This is to inform you that further to the creation of a PRIPARE liaison with ISO/IEC JTC1/SC27/WG5 in October 2014, a study period on privacy engineering period was proposed in May 2015. This study period could lead to future work on standards for privacy engineering. I have attached the presentation I made in May 2015 explaining the rationale for this study period. Note that the terms of reference (slide 22,23, 24) mention PRIPARE, PMRM, PbD-SE as well as the “NIST Interagency Report on Privacy Engineering (draft forthcoming)” which I believe is NISTIR 8062.

As a result a call for contribution has been circulated by ISO to the national standardization bodies (deadline August 15th, 2015). The National Body contributions received in response to this call for contributions will be discussed at the next ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 27 meeting in October.

The rapporteurs for this study period are myself and Matthias Reinis.

Three points I would like to make:

  • PRIPARE will make a contribution
  • I hope that OASIS PMRM and PbD-SE TCs or members are interested to contribute. If this is the case, there are to my knowledge several possibilities
    • directly through the members national bodies
    • extending the existing ISO-OASIS liaison to include ISO/IEC JTC1/SC27/WG5. The OASIS can send directly contributions
    • Sending your comments to PRIPARE. Dawn Jutla and Ann Cavoukian are members of the PRIPARE advisory board (http://pripareproject.eu/advisory-board-2/) and we can therefore provide comments on behalf of our advisory board
  • We will have a discussion on July 9th with NIST on the privacy engineering study period. We will probably also discuss NISTIR 8062. I will inform you about the result of this discussion

Best regards
