Subject: SV: PLCS TOG - CCB - Development of MUGs

All,

The problem of getting a wider uptake of the PLCS standard was briefly mentioned during the latest PLCS TOG CCB.

I believe that the lack of description of how to use the PSM (PLCS SysML Model) entities is one major reason for this. The (one?) solution, the Model Usage Guidance (MUG) is already identified and a structural part of PLCSlib. The problem is that besides a MUG for Reference Data, there are no other actual MUGs developed.

I believe that a joint effort to develop MUGs covering all PSM entities could lead to removing the obstacle of understanding the standard and thereby improve the possibility of a wider uptake (and also lead to a more uniform implementation of the PLCS standard).

I believe the work should be performed by a combination of model experts (preferably not only from Eurostep ;o) and potential/existing standard implementers. I don’t know the amount of work required (perhaps Rob could give an estimate?!), how the work should be organized, or when the task may begin (based on contracting times).

I would therefor appreciate feedback from you all on;
- whether you believe this is an important/relevant task or if something else is more critical (or if everything is just fine as it is)
- if you believe you or someone from your organization would be interested in participating
- how you believe your chances are to allocate the required resources (based on your personal engagement)
- when in time (jan 2015, aug 2015, jan 2016) you’re likely to have these resources ready to start the work

I believe it’s sad that all the work put into the development of the standard hasn’t led to a wider usage and believe it’s important to change this!
