Subject: RE: request for access to STEP information
Please find attached the official consent from ISO for OASIS to be able to make all the ISO TC184 SC4 documents (not restricted to PLCS) available on the OASIS website. This has been facilitated by the A-liaison established between the two organisations. This clears action 1/3 from the first meeting. Keep this in mind if you answer this message. Dear Karl, I was out of the office last week so apologies for the delay in getting back to you. In fact, an A-liaison makes the situation even easier since you are free then to post all SC 4 documents on your internal websites for the purpose of coordinating OASIS's inputs to the SC. As you possibly know, ISO claims copyright on all its draft standards (working drafts, committee drafts, DIS, FDIS etc.) and publications, this largely being to prevent third parties from being able to sell the documents, but ISO members and liaison organizations obviously need to distibute such documents to be able to seek inputs to contribute to the work as well as use publications as reference documents for related work. As I explained to Howard some weeks ago, we also authorize completely external groups to distribute published standards for further standardization purposes, but this is on a case-by-case basis and subject to the provision that the standards will be on a protected site and not be publicly accessible. best wishes, Mike -----Original Message----- From: Karl F. The TC has requested OASIS to accept the offer of an A-liaison from SC4, which I will be following up right away, in order to ensure that it can give operational experience feedback into the ISO group and help to influence future development of the standard. Many of the TC members are also active in the ISO work on PLCS. (The OASIS PLCS TC is co-chaired by Howard Mason of BAE SYSTEMS and Jerry Smith of DISA, who are also respectively the Chair and Secretary of TC184/SC4; information about the TC may be found at http://www.oasis-open.org/committees/plcs) The TC is seeking your permission to offer access to the STEP AP and its supporting information modules to TC members via the OASIS website in order to facilitate the planned exploitation of the standard. The documents would be held on the OASIS website and made accessible only to OASIS members participating in the Technical Committee. We look forward to your favourable consideration of this request. Please do not hesitate to contact either myself or the TC co-chairs for any further information that you require. -Karl ================================================================= Karl F.
