Subject: XML-ing LSAR data

 To those interested,

In some "free" time, me and a collegue (Peter Holmlund) has been looking into converting LSAR (Logistic Support Analysis Record - the output from an LSA) data files formatted according to mil-std 1388-2B and DEF STAN 00-60 into XML.

Our first idea was only to apply XSLT and convert the file into HTML for easy viewing over our (FMV) intranet (as a complement to our LSAR-tool). You can watch the result by extracting the two files in the attached zip archive into the same folder, and then click the file named 'tt850.xml' (open test data - no secrets...). The applied XSL file only shows XA and XB table data, but all tables are included in the XML file (view it using e.g. Notepad).

Another idea which came to us during the work was to convert these XML-ed LSAR data files (using XSLT) into the DEX2 format according to/following its XML-Schema. This could then make it easier to move LASR legacy data into a possible new PLCS-based repository. This work has not started and we have no idea how much effort it would take. As I said, it's an idea.

We know about the mapping between 00-60 and PLCS, but we're not sure if we're fully updated on its current status. Could someone please help us to a copy of the latest mapping report?!

Please note that the correctness of the conversion to XML (using a small VB application) hasn't been verified. We're still only trying this out.

If anyone of you find this the least interesting, please share your thoughts with us (or the OASIS PLCS community),

Regards,
  Mats & Peter
