Subject: definitions of primitive elements
Let me define the Primitive Elements for the PPS XML message contents. While I have defined them, the line up of the elements was a little bit changed, sorry. Primitive Elements Primitive Elements are defined to represent concepts that correspond to independent objects in planning and scheduling problems. In PPS XML messages, these elements are described in a top level. 1. <customer> Element <customer> represents a customer who requests the enterprise to provide particular products or services. Customers create orders for their requests, which will be fulfilled by planning/scheduling. 2. <supplier> Element <supplier> represents a supplier who provides particular products or services for the enterprise. Suppliers can get orders from the enterprise to provide additional items and resources. 3. <item> Element <item> represents an item including products, components, parts, work-in-process inventories, raw materials, and so forth. An item is produced by an operation, and then consumed by another operation. 4. <resource> Element <resource> represents an item that can provide any services such as making, moving, stocking, inspecting, and so forth. A resource is assigned by operations with respect to the resource capacity. 5. <operation> Element <operation> represents an operation, which is an activity that composes a production process. An operation can produce and consume items by executing it during a certain period of time. 6. <order> Element <order> represents a customer order, purchase order, and production order, all of which are created to request particular products or services. A production order is used as a source of dispatching order in a plant floor. 7. <dispatch>* Element <dispatch> represents a work order or a dispatch order that execute an operation at a certain period of time on a plant floor. The execution of the order makes certain relations with particular lots and tasks. 8. <lot> Element <lot> represents a production lot, which is an actual existence of items at particular time and address. A lot is produced by a work order and finally consumed by another work order or shipping order. 9. <task> Element <task> represents an actual use of resource capacity during particular period of time on a particular resource. A work order requires one or several tasks for each resource assigned by the order to execute the corresponding operation. 10. <stone> Element <stone> represents a particular time instance used in scheduling decisions. This may be used for a kind of mile stones in an actual schedule of plant floors, in order to synchronize with other schedules. The following two elements had better to be categorized not in primitive elements, because "events" always occur on a item or a resource. This means that event is a kind of property of items or resources. A1. <event> Element <event> represents an intended change of any status of production items or resources. The change is made independently on a resource such as equipments or labors at an instant of time. A2. <action>* Element <action> represents an execution of an event. This element has one time instance when it is executed. -- Yasu Nissy (Yasuyuki NISHIOKA), Dr.Eng.
