Subject: 20050215 Editor's Call minutes.

Participants in this morning's working group call
reviewed the summary of open spec issues published yesterday.

Attendees:
- Ron Jacobsen (CA)
- Gary Cole (Sun)

With the "cats away" at RSA, Mr. Jacobsen had unfettered access
to express his opinions.

1) Regarding 3.4.1.2.1 and 3.4.2.2.1 and 3.4.7.2.1,
Mr. Jacobsen suggested that the specification does NOT
need to explain why operations such as 'cancel', 'status'
and 'iterate' must be synchronous. Ron says keep it simple.

Gary Cole expressed some concern that the reasons
(that these operations must be synchronous) might be lost.
This could in turn lead to an oversight on the part of
developers who define operations in custom capabilities.
As a compromise, we might say why but keep it short.

2) Regarding 3.4.7.1 and 3.4.5,
Mr. Jacobsen suggested that most operations
    should be batchable.

Gary Cole pointed out that search and iterate are NOT
batchable, and suggested that the PSTC should review
all capability-specific operations and that the specification
should document which are not batchable. If this is not done,
it could in turn lead to a similar oversight on the part of
developers who define operations in custom capabilities.
Gary Cole offered to make a first pass at this,
in order to provoke response from the PSTC at large.

3) Regarding Appendix K,
Darran Rolls provided updated OASIS Notices for 2005.
Gary Cole updated the draft spec.

Carryover Action Items
----------------------

1) Jeff Bohren to supply examples of defining named reference types
(i.e., discoverable meta-data for references) and modifying references.

2) Gary Cole to work offline with Jeff Bohren
to reconstruct agreement wrt Reference Capability
and then update draft spec accordingly.

New Action Items
----------------

3) Gary Cole to resolve spec issues 3.4.1.2.1 and 3.4.2.2.1 and 3.4.7.2.1
by saying why operations must be synchronous but keeping it short.

4) Gary Cole to post to the list a "straw-man" summary
that says which capability-specific operations are batchable.
