Subject: BIEs and Context Categories

Team,

The more specific subjects here are "BIEs and All Contexts" and "BIEs
and No Contexts". As we know, we've determined that a CC becomes a BIE
(whether BCC or ACC) by being classified by one of the 8 context
categories. Conside the following cases:

(1) A BIE is valid for *all* values for a given context category;
(2) A BIE is valid for *no* values for a given context category;
(3) A BIE is valid for *all* values for *all* context categories;
(4) A BIE is valid for *no* values for *no* context categories;

I would say that we can eliminate case (4) above right away, as a BIE
has to be assigned to at least one value of one context category
(whether or not the CCTS spec says this, it would make sense).

What about cases (1) to (3)? I will cite the following CCTS excerpt
(p.65):

<Quote>
6.2.3 Context Values

A specific Business Context is formally described using a set of Context
values. Every Context Category must have a valid value, even if this
value is In All Contexts or None. The value None is appropriate for
Official Constraints Context because there will be instances where there
are no official constraints.

[C61] The In All Contexts value shall be a valid value for every Context
Category except for Official Constraints Context.

[C62] The value None shall be a valid value for Official Constraints
Context.
</Quote>

In light of that, I would propose the following (reproducing the cases
from above):

(1) A BIE is valid for *all* values for a given context category;

OUR HANDLING: Each Context Category Classification Scheme *must* have a
ClassificationNode whose value is "In All Contexts"; the BIE in this
case would be associated with that node.

(2) A BIE is valid for *no* values for a given context category;

OUR HANDLING: The BIE in this case would simply not be associated with
any node for that Context Category.

(3) A BIE is valid for *all* values for *all* context categories;

OUR HANDLING: The BIE in this case would be associated with the "In All
Contexts" node for each of the 8 Context Categories.

Thoughts?
