Peter,

I hope the cyclist was OK too!  Been there done that!!

On the coordination front on semantic alignment - please
include OASIS CAM work in this too.

I am presenting on CAM next week at NIST for the OAGi
meeting, and I've also incorporated the work Duane
has done with the Canadian Government and registry
into this tutorial.   Being able to manage vocabulary
and semantic use is a particular feature of CAM
templates.

I'll be able to share those slides next week along with
all the open source tools for doing this yourself.

This initiative idea thru eGov sounds good and should
compliment the existing project work we have started
around the MOD use case that Paul Spencer is
working.

Thanks, DW

p.s. You were luck it wasn't Duane on that bike - he's
still sore after his Canucks got nuked in the
       play-offs!!

Subject: [egov] Back in one piece...

To those of you who were in Amsterdam:

Apologies for my sudden disappearance on Wednesday morning – as some of you know, I took a tumble after a collision with an Amsterdam cyclist*, and my subsequent visit to the clinic meant that I missed out on Wednesday's proceedings. Thanks for the many get well messages and expressions of concern, and I can assure you that there are no broken bones just a few sore muscles and feeling a bit phased.

On a more business like note, the eGov TC is interested that we now make a formal approach to the European Standards Agency, the CEN, and the European Commission, to launch a piece of work on "semantic interoperability", along the lines discussed in different ways during the two days of workshops in Amsterdam. One caveat – quite correctly – is that this should complement the work of, and progress in tandem with, the other OASIS TCs working in this field. I would include ebXML RegRep Semantic, Topic Maps Published Subjects and UBL-NDRSC. Personally, I see some very powerful synergies to be developed between the Topic Maps paradigm and the ebXML methodology and registry infrastructure

After getting feedback from the eEnvoy's office and Ann Wrightson, I will finalise a "business plan" (based on the first draft) for John Borras and I to sign and submit to CEN.

All the best,

Peter

* Having only recently re-acclimatised to the UK (who of course drive the "wrong" way and on the wrong side of the road), my instincts were momentarily confused being back on the European mainland, and looked out the "wrong" way when crossing a cycle path too quickly: "right" was "wrong" and should have been "left"…context is everything, no? ;-)
