Subject: Re: [regrep-semantic] Proposed EU address validation service
Peter, An address validation service will absolutely require OASIS CAM, in tandem with the Registry and then driven by the UPU work on postal address rules, with some OASIS CIQ thrown in too. The UPU have defined rules for many of the major postal services. This is non-trivial and heady stuff once you get into mail delivery details. Notice that the OAGi is also working on an address format for BODs as core components. The UPU is obviously the authoritative source here - and closest to a solution IMHO - however they require CAM as a processor engine to actually drive their rules and templates. I've looked at Venezulan, Moroccan and UK address details from the UPU and all this is highly doable. If we can get some funding to build this it would be a milestone. As you note - the components and markup is there - what is lacking is resources to actually deploy. There will be representatives from the European Commission's eGovernment Unit there, with whom I have been in touch in recent days... Hans Aanesen will be there for the OASIS EPR-Forum, and I thought that David Webber would come to, although I don't see him as registered. I'm still waiting for a reply on funding to see whether I take part or not... I think the key is demonstrating that there are generic, standards-based technology solutions to the sort of issues that this sort of registry is raising.... Thanks for sharing this. How do you suggest we get this work to leverage our work on ebXML Registry standard? -- Regards, Farrukh
