                        CALL FOR PAPERS

    International Journal of Metadata, Semantics and Ontologies

                        Special Issue on
           "Metadata and Annotation for Semantic Web"

There has been a rapid growth in machine-understandable metadata and
annotation research in the past few years. Many novel frameworks,
vocabularies, tools, and applications have been proposed, developed
and studied. The goal of this special issues is to keep a record of
the state-of-the-art research in this fast moving area.


* Subject Coverage

The special issue will cover a range of issues and topics,
including but not limited to:

  - Tools/frameworks of novel metadata applications
  - Semantic annotation for mutimedia contents
  - Metadata-based natural language processing
  - Automatic extraction/learning of metadata from Web pages
  - Evaluation of metadata standards
  - Development and maintenace of metadata or annotation vocabularies
  - Practical experiences and applications of annotations
  - Semantic desktop for simultaneous creation of documents and metadata
  - Innovative FOAF (friend of a friend) projects
  - Creation of collaborative, shared annotation and metadata
  - Organizational and social aspects of shared annotations

* Important Dates

  Paper submission deadline: 30 April 2005
  Notification of acceptance: 30 July 2005
  Revised paper deadline: 1st September 2005
  Final decision: 30 September 2005
  Final manuscript: 30 October 2005
