Subject: RE : [regrep-semantic] ebXML Registry Profile for OWL

Hi guys,
Nothing to have with the OWL profile directly, but just taking "the ball to the leap" on the profile definition discussion. I'd like to put into the profile template.
What do you think about :

Deployment Profile Template: Document that lists the options in the source specification that may be selected by a user community, that identifies content elements (e.g. ebRIM objects) the format and/or value of which may be further standardized by a community, and that also identifies typical operating conditions under which the source specification may be used, and selected by a user community.

Deployment Profile : Document that is an instance of the Deployment Profile Template. It defines which options should / should not be used by this community, which format or value some content elements should comply with, and under which operating conditions the standard must be used by this community.

Many thanks for any input.

Regards,
Ivan

Yes - precisely.

However, please note that there is ample predent for using profiles to
define standard extensions
of extensible spec. See for example SAML and XACML specs.

My experience with several standards is that the term profile is used to
define both extensions and restrictions.

The idea is that:

1) a good spec is extensible and a profile needs to describe exactly how
to use the extensions feature
while maintaining interoperability.

2) Even a reasonable spec has a lot of junk that is not desiarble and a
profile can restrict by saying that certain features MUST NOT be used.,

+1

The UML Model is illustrative not prescriptive and can be anything that
helps further correct understanding.
It would make perfect sense to be consistent with the metamodel for OWL.
Note that in case of WSDL there was no such
model available.

Thanks very much for the clarification.
