Subject: RE: [regrep] V3 Proposal: Namespace Manager Function

Title: RE: [regrep] V3 Proposal: Namespace Manager Function

David,

Please see comment below.

<David>
Any content in the registry can have one or more
classifications linked to it.

<Joe_Comment>
That surprises me, because at one time during V2 I believe there was talk of Content-Based Query (it was deferred to a later phase).  According to our V2 specs, all of the classification functionality is regarding Registry Objects, not content within Registry Objects (reference RIM line 1198, "Classification of RegistryObject": "This section describes how the information model supports Classification of RegistryObject").

It is the same for query - reference RS line 1179, "Query Management Service": "This section describes the capabilities of Registry Service that allow a client (QueryManagerClient) to search for or query different kinds of registry objects..."

Please tell me if I am missing a section that references the classification and query of content within Registry Objects.  I believe our current registry functionality does not get down to the level required for the Namespace Manager proposal.

</Joe_Comment>

Thanks,
Joe

Joe,

Yes exactly.  Any content in the registry can have one or more
classifications linked to it.

You create your own classification structures to match what
you need.

Within the classification node properities you can express
the namespace value.

Then when you insert content into the registry - you can
put the classification node value linked to that content.

Thanks, DW.

Thanks for your feedback David.  Regarding the piece below:

<Piece>
You can navigate and search via the classification to
either discover or drilldown to the content you desire,
or locate by classification content the specific namespace
value.
</Piece>

What exactly would the "content" be?  Would this be as fine-grained as an
element in a schema or XML document?  Or would it have to be a schema, DTD,
XML document, etc.?  I had been referencing individual
elements/attributes/types.
