Subject: RE: [regrep] XQuery Support
I would like to see XQuery support in V3 if as a very high priority, with support for Reg/Rep's query language becoming optional. At ChevronTexaco we continue to be very strong advocates of cooperation between OASIS ands W3C. When W3C has (or is close to completing) a workable standard in a particular area, we should use that standard if at all possible. The payoff for us is better interoperability among the various product we will buy in the future. <David RR Webber> Since we already have the XQuery support built-in to our Registry implementation as the underlying query engine this is a no-brainer for us. </David RR Webber> That's exactly the point. In very short order, nearly every XML engine will have XQuery support built in. Therefore, I would expect Reg/Rep implementations that are based on XQuery to cost less. We are strongly in favor of products that cost less. If we time this right, our V3 will come out just about the time XQuery becomes final. It may actually look as if W3C and OASIS are working together toward a common goal of effective, interoperable eBusiness!
