Subject: [regrep] RE: [chairs] relations with W3C

Here are the combined comments from the Registry TC:

1. It is good that W3C and OASIS are looking to collaborate on fostering
XML use and XML based specification development. In the past it has been
difficult for OASIS groups to pass technical comments and priorities to W3C
Working Groups.

2. Working with XLink and XQuery are beneficial to the Registry work. A
concern is that the W3C schema work may have some issues of scale and
deployability, and is not taking advantage of interfacing to a registry and
using UIDs with business semantics, nor supporting the registry model.

3. It would be useful to have relevant OASIS standards in the "official"
review loop of the W3C standards and vice versa. The value in comments from
an OASIS TC or a W3C WG is that the comments will be well discussed and
evaluated within the TC/WG prior to sending, and the receiving TC/WG would
be likely to give heavy consideration to comments received from another

4. It would be helpful for W3C and OASIS to review eBusiness related
activities and come to an understanding of the relationships so this can be
fed back to the appropriate W3C WGs and OASIS TCs. An example of related
activities would be ebXML in OASIS and Web Services Activity in W3C. The
formal liaison team forming between the W3C TAG and OASIS TAG is a good
first step.

5. A working relationship with the web services activity at W3C would also
be beneficial.

6. A well documented clarification of IP policy differences of OASIS and
W3C pertaining to different types of documents (submissions, specifications,
etc.) would be helpful in understanding, using and implementing these

Subject: [chairs] relations with W3C

The managements of OASIS and of W3C have been in conversation the last
couple of months about how the two organizations could better be working
together. As part of our discussions W3C has asked for specific problems
or concerns that should be addressed.

In preparation for our next meeting at the end of next week I would like
to hear from any of the OASIS TCs that now have or could have a liaison
relationship with a W3C working group or activity, or whose technical
work in some way overlaps or relates to their work.

Please let me know what specific issues your TC may have including but
not limited to obstacles to working together, divergent goals, IP
issues, scheduling issues, what groups you need to work with, etc.
