Subject: [Fwd: Usage scenarios for OMG ontology development metamodel]
Forwarding this e-mail from Eliot Christian of USGS, for potential synergy with our semantic registry enhancements for v4. It's regarding use cases for OMG ontology development metamodel (ODM). Some quick references: P.8 on query: "Support for query interoperation across multiple, heterogeneous databases is considered a part of this scenario." P.10 on lifecycle: Discusses an ontology lifecycle in which "Ontological information will be included in a standard MOF repository for management, storage and archiving. This may be to satisfy legal or operations requirements to maintain version histories.". P.11 on semantics and search: Discusses "Semantics assisted search of data stored in databases or content stored on the Web" Thanks, Joe -------- Original Message -------- Subject: Usage scenarios for OMG ontology development metamodel Date: Fri, 05 Dec 2003 11:44:01 -0500 From: Eliot Christian <echristi@usgs.gov> To: sc32wg2-news@nist.gov CC: Rob Atkinson <rob@socialchange.net.au>,Joseph Busch <jbusch@taxonomystrategies.com>,Joe Chiusano <chiusano_joseph@bah.com>,Ron Daniel <rdaniel@taxonomystrategies.com>,Michael Gruninger <gruning@cme.nist.gov>, Terry.Hardgrave@ed.gov,Jim Hendler <hendler@cs.umd.edu>, Ralph Hodgson <rhodgson@topquadrant.com>,Michael Lang <mlang@metamatrix.com>, Eric Miller <emiller@oclc.org>,Brand Niemann <bniemann@cox.net>, Adam Pease <apease@ks.teknowledge.com>,Bruce.Peat@dfas.mil, Raul Valdes-Perez <valdes@vivisimo.com>,David Webber <david@drrw.info>, Kevin Williams <kevin@blueoxide.com> Please forward to anyone interested in ontology development. >Date: Fri, 05 Dec 2003 14:25:29 +1000 >Subject: FYI and comment: Usage scenarios for OMG ontology development > metamodel >From: Bob Colomb <colomb@itee.uq.edu.au> >To: Eliot Christian <echristi@usgs.gov> > >Eliot, > >The joint working group on the ontology development metamodel extensions to >UML has developed a set of usage scenarios covering much of the possible >uses of ontologies and the consequences for the ODM metamodel.
