Subject: Re: [regrep] Meeting agenda and reminder for ebXML Registry telecon December 18th, 2003

All,

I regret that I will need to miss today's call, due to the need to rest
(I've been treating a bad cold for almost 2 weeks now). However, here
are some items I'd like to contribute from my perspective regarding XML
2003:

Regarding the W3C/OASIS Town Hall Meeting:

* Farrukh mentioned the use of ebXML Registry as a content management
standard (which I support), but the general sense that I had was that
the others in the room (at least apart from me) did not have a grasp on
this concept - they seemed puzzled.

* As a result, the discussion was (very) abruptly ended by an audience
member (unnamed) who went to the mic and commented that they would "like
to kill this thread as quickly as possible".

* So the discussion never got off the ground as well as I believe it
should have.

* I think that once we better define the synergies between CAM and the
registry, this tie-in will become more evident.

* If we believe that this is a good thing for our standard, perhaps in
the future a presentation on this that we can give in certain forums
might help.

Regarding the joint BCM/CAM/Registry Meeting:

* Due to conference duties (chairing sessions, etc.) I was not able to
attend as much of this meeting as I would like.

* However, the sense that I had early on (I understand this improved)
was that folks became so bogged down in particulars that we spent quite
a bit of time spinning our wheels (again, at least very early on).

* For instance, the room spent a lot of time debating about whether (and
how) CAM was to be used at design time, run time, or both, whether it
was static or dynamic, etc. - when instead (I believe) we should have
been focusing on the concepts themselves and the synergies between the
standards.

* Farrukh has a much better sense of the meeting than I, as he spent
more time there. I defer completely to his judgement as to whether the
outcome was successful or not, and to what degree.

Happy Holidays everyone!

Thanks,
Joe
