Subject: [Siit] Call for Papers for Special Journal Issue on "Standards
and Open Source Software"

Could you please forward the following CfP to those who may be
interested? Thank you.

Call for Papers

for a Special Issue of Computer Standards & Interfaces (Elsevier) on

Cross-fertilization between Standards and Open Source Software

Guest Editors: Tineke M. Egyedi and Rishab Aiyer Ghosh

Submission deadline full papers: 1st of July 2004

Increasingly, standards and free / libre / open source software (OSS)
are discussed and treated as a natural dyad by IT-policy makers and
-managers. But are they? If so, in what manner and from which angle? If
not, what causes the confusion?

Aim and scope

The relationship between standards and OSS is not at all self-evident.
This special issue aims to explore the area of interaction at the
crossroad of both fields, an area that threatens to be overlooked in
research which specialises in either field. It wants to draw attention
to several interesting issues in the area of overlap. Possible topics
include but are not limited to:

*	comparison between standardisation and OSS processes
(commonalities and differences; their solution and limitations; etc.)
*	critical analyses of projects that address both standards and
OSS issues
*	case studies of OSS standardisation
*	interoperability and compatibility issues regarding OSS
*	using OSS in/for standardisation, implementation, certification,
etc.

We seek papers that reflect state-of-the-art insight and research in
this field, and illustrate different viewpoints.

Important Dates

-	Submission of papers: 1st of July
-	Notification of acceptance/rejection: 1st of August
-	Submission of final paper: 1st of September 2004
-	Publication of special issue envisaged: November 2004

The schedule may be subject to revisions. Prospective authors are
invited to make themselves known to the editors ahead of time to
facilitate harmonization of the issue and ensure that the authors will
be informed of any change.

Submission Guidelines

We sollicit full papers. These will undergo a double-blind review
process. Please submit them electronically to both guest editors: Tineke
M. Egyedi
(T.M.Egyedi@tbm.tudelft.nl) and Rishab Aiyer Ghosh (rishab@dxm.org), and
take into account the following guidelines:

- the paper should not exceed 6,000 words (i.e. roughly 8-12 pages in 12
pt font format, including figures and tables)
- all author contact information should be included on the first page
- the abstract should not exceed 100 words
- include 3-5 keywords
- send it in Word or PDF format

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.
Best regards,

Tineke M. Egyedi & Rishab Aiyer Ghosh
