OK +1

That's exactly what I had been wanting to get to.  Giving people
the option here to use both.   I agree that UID cannot replace
UUID - and its not intended to - in fact in many situations I 
see that you need *both* together.   When to expose which
depends on the implementation detail and use case.

Your words below are perfect!  This combined with the
Version Control mechanism gives us everything we need 
here.
