xsi:nil="true" in XML Schema means that the content of an element is intentionally empty. The fact that it is empty is supposed to indicate something like <ilikekumquats xsi:nil="true"></ilikekumquats> or some such. The element must be declared with a nillable="true" attribute in the schema and the namespace for XMLSchema-instance must also be declared in the instance. Mike
