Subject: Thoughts about Cloud Profile
The scope would need to consider: -
IaaS, PaaS, SaaS – which would we consider. o
IT as a Service. CA has a “Labs on Demand”
IaaS used by development organization for testing. For example, the LOD
service can provision a multi-platform ipv6 environment on demand. CA
also has a “Demos on Demand” IaaS used by sales organization.
o
Platform as a Service. Amazon Web Services
(AWS) and Google App Engine are examples. Storage, Database, Mail,
Memory, User, etc. o
Software as a Service. SalesForce.com,
Google Docs, etc. -
Scoping a “well-known” service would buy us
exposure. For example, the PaaS of Amazon or Google would be huge
exposure. Fyi – Python use increased 45% when Google deployed the
Python AppServer. -
Do we consider from a consumer perspective or provider
perspective? In other words, what do our symptoms look like? Are
they provider type symptoms (which is really just standard IT/Datacenter
scenarios)? Or, are they consumer type symptoms (which is about symptoms
that the cloud provider is exposing). See the following dashboards from a
consumer perspective: o
http://code.google.com/status/appengine o
