Logic of NameID value.

I found a huge number getting generated with name-id as unique, just wanted  to know how this number gets generated and how its unique over different request, say for example:

     <saml:NameID
       Format="urn:oasis:names:tc:SAML:2.0:nameid-format:transient">
       3f7b3dcf-1674-4ecd-92c8-1544f346baf8
     </saml:NameID>

If someone can help me with the answer or, give some link where I can get my answer.
