Subject: [NEW ISSUE] SCA Assembly requires an Annotation to indicate whether aforward operation in a bidirectional interface must carry a callbackaddress

Raiser:
Mike Edwards
Target:
SCA Assembly specification
Description:
In discussions in the SCA-J TC relating
to bidirectional interfaces and callbacks, it was noted that in a bidirectional
interface, not
all the forward operations necessarily
involve their being any related callback operations. For forward
operations with no related
callback operations, it is noted that
the implementation expense of transmitting a callback address with the
forward request cannot
be avoided at present, since there is
no way for an SCA runtime to know that the forward call does not involve
any callbacks. It is
worth avoiding sending the callback
address if possible since there is likely to be a significant overhead
in generating, transmitting
and interpreting the callback address.
This issue requests that an additional
interface annotation is made available by SCA which can be used to mark
a forward call
operation as not involving any callback
operations, so permitting the SCA runtime to optimise transmission of callback
addresses.
Proposal:
None at present
