Subject: NEW ISSUE: Default qualifier for SOAP intent should not be 1_1
TARGET: Web Services Binding Specification DESCRIPTION: Default qualifier for SOAP intent should not be 1_1 The Policy spec defines the SOAP intent as having a default qualifier of 1_1. This is incompatible with the semantics for the SOAP intent and the SOAP.1_1 intent as defined by the Web Services binding spec. These semantics are defined in section 4.1 as follows: So as to narrow the range of choices for how messages are carried, the following policy intents affect the transport binding: • SOAP When the SOAP intent is required, the SCA runtime MUST transmit and receive messages using SOAP. One or more SOAP versions can be used [BWS40001]. • SOAP.1_1 When the SOAP.1_1 intent is required, the SCA runtime MUST transmit and receive messages using only SOAP 1.1 [BWS40002]. • SOAP.1_2 When the SOAP.1_2 intent is required, the SCA runtime MUST transmit and receive messages using only SOAP 1.2 [BWS40003]. The SOAP intent allows SOAP 1.2 to be used, but the SOAP.1_1 intent does not allow SOAP 1.2 to be used. This shows that specifying the SOAP intent is not equivalent to specifying the SOAP.1_1 intent. PROPOSAL: Add a new qualifer ANY to the SOAP intent and define this as the default qualifier.
